description

The Ramair Proram Series intake kit is suitable for all BMW models with the B58 engine (3.0L twin-scroll turbo inline six-cylinder) – from M140i over M240i up to 340i and 440i of the F-series. It replaces the standard airbox with an open intake system featuring a cone filter, aluminum intake pipe and heat shield.

The laser-cut heat shield with carbon fiber covers encapsulates the cone filter from the hot engine compartment. Air from the factory-installed cold air intake is directed around the filter, keeping the intake temperature low. The double-angular intake manifold reduces turbulence in front of the compressor wheel and smooths the airflow towards the turbocharger.

As a result, the airflow to the turbo increases, the responsiveness improves and the intake noise of the B58 becomes significantly more present – especially under load and when revving up.

Highlights

  • Mounting at factory-installed mounting points and rubber mounts – without drilling
  • Laser-cut heat shield with carbon covers for low intake temperatures
  • Double tangential aluminum intake pipe reduces turbulence in front of the turbocharger.
  • Proram cone filter with pleated aluminum filter medium (washable and oilable)
  • Higher airflow and significantly increased intake noise

Material

Laser-cut and precision-folded heat shield, black coated, with carbon fiber covers. Intake pipe made of dimensionally stable and temperature-resistant aluminum. Filter element from Proram (Ramair's own brand) with washable and re-oilable aluminum filter medium. Hose connections made of silicone, secured with stainless steel hose clamps.

use

Complete system as a replacement for the standard airbox on BMW B58 engines. Installation is carried out using the factory mounting points and rubber mounts – no drilling or welding required. Illustrated step-by-step instructions are included with the kit. Installation is also available at FLOW DOWN® in Essen.

FAQ

The kit suits all BMW B58 engines of the F generation - the 3.0-litre straight-six with a twin-scroll turbo. That includes the M140i and M240i as well as the 340i and 440i (each with or without xDrive). For the M3/M4 with the S55 the kit is not suitable; we stock a different one for those.
With the insulated airbox gone, the B58's characteristic intake noise becomes noticeably more present - especially when accelerating and revving out. At part throttle and steady cruising the system stays discreet, so it is not intrusive day to day.
The Proram Series is the standard version with an aluminium intake pipe and one cone filter - functionally equivalent but more attractively priced than the carbon version with two filters. The heat shield covers here are also made from carbon.
No. The kit comes with a parts type approval, the successor to the ABE. A modification inspection is not needed at all - the papers merely have to be carried in the car.
The Proram aluminium filter is washable and re-oilable. In normal use a clean every 20,000 to 30,000 km is enough. A filter change as with disposable paper filters is thus avoided for many years.
Sound and response improve noticeably even without a remap. The full power gain, though, is only realised with Stage 1 or Stage 2 software, as the ECU can then use the higher airflow deliberately.
