Grail exhaust system suitable for Audi TTS Coupé 8S / FV – valved exhaust system

The TTS - a compact sports car that finally sounds the part

The Audi TTS Coupé 8S (internally also FV) sits exactly between the tamer TT and the uncompromising TT RS. 286 to 310 hp from the 2.0 TFSI, all-wheel drive and a compact coupé format - a class of its own to drive, but held back acoustically from the factory. The GRAIL valved exhaust system puts that right: the full TFSI sound in Sport mode, pops on the overrun, restrained while cruising. Exactly what suits the sporty stance of the TTS.

Made entirely from L304 stainless steel, hand-made in Germany. ECE type approval - so no registration is required on any EU vehicle with standard type approval. Ready to drive as soon as it is fitted.

With or without a particulate filter - both versions available

The GRAIL system for the TTS Coupé covers both cars with a petrol particulate filter and cars without one. In the configurator you choose the version that matches your car:

  • With particulate filter:For TTS Coupé models with a factory petrol particulate filter (introduced gradually from around 2018). The filter stays integrated in the system - full ECE compliance, no registration required.
  • Without particulate filter:For TTS Coupé models without a petrol particulate filter. Even clearer and stronger in sound, because there is no additional filter muting the exhaust flow.

Two valves in series - a wider acoustic range

On the TTS, GRAIL uses a design solution that is rarely found among competitors:Two valves are fitted one behind the other, in series. The effect is clearly audible - the difference between quiet and loud is noticeably greater than on standard systems with just one valve.

  • Valves closed:Both valves block the exhaust flow completely - the system stays comfortably within all prescribed noise limits. You can drive through 20 mph zones, villages and residential areas without a second thought. Fully ECE-compliant.
  • Valves open:Both valves open the exhaust flow - the full 2.0 TFSI sound with no compromise, including pops on the overrun. Exactly what the TTS lacks from the factory.

Valve control via the Audi driving modes

Both valves are controlled by the factory Audi valve control of your TTS. You operate them as usual via the MMI:

  • Dynamic mode: both valves open - the full GRAIL sound
  • Comfort or Efficiency: both valves closed - restrained and ECE-compliant

Configuration in the configurator

Before ordering you choose:

  • Particulate filter status:With or without a petrol particulate filter
  • Downpipe connection:To the standard downpipe or an HJS downpipe
  • Exhaust tip colour:Brushed stainless steel or black

Not sure whether your TTS has a particulate filter? Send us the VIN via WhatsApp or the contact form - we will check before you order.

Downpipe connection - standard or HJS

  • To the standard downpipe:The standard choice for a TTS without a modified downpipe. Connects directly to the factory downpipe.
  • To an HJS downpipe:For drivers with an HJS downpipe fitted (typical of Stage 2 / Stage 3 set-ups). The GRAIL system is made with the matching interface for HJS.

Exhaust tips - quad round, 100 mm

The system comes with the classic quad-tip look: four round 100 mm tips, sporty and bold at the rear. That sets the TTS clearly apart from its standard appearance and gives it an unmistakably aftermarket character. Two classic colours to choose from:

  • Brushed stainless steel:Sporty and elegant, with a refined look at the rear
  • Black:A matt black quad-tip look - bold yet understated, for stealthy set-ups

Material and workmanship

Made entirely from L304 stainless steel, with CNC-machined components. The silencers and both valves are tuned in the GRAIL sound lab specifically for the 2.0 TFSI of the TTS Coupé - with switching logic for the versions with and without a particulate filter. Flow-optimised pipe routing minimises back pressure when the valves are open. Both valves are machined from solid stainless steel, switch precisely and last well in everyday use.

Highlights

  • Specifically suitable for Audi TTS Coupé 8S / FV
  • Available with or without a particulate filter
  • Two valves in series - a wide range between quiet and loud
  • ECE type approval - no registration required within the EU
  • Quad round 100 mm in stainless steel or black

Ordering with fitting at FLOW DOWN®

FLOW DOWN® is an official GRAIL partner in the Ruhr region. When you order with fitting, you get our fair deposit model:

  • 50 % deposit when you place the order - we then order the system from GRAIL
  • As soon as the system arrives at our workshop, we arrange the fitting appointment with you
  • You pay the balance only after fitting has been completed - not before

Important:The deposit model applies only when fitting is booked and is possible by advance payment / bank transfer only. PayPal and other payment methods are not accepted for this.

Swiss suitability certificate

On request you can obtain a Swiss suitability certificate for the GRAIL system for a surcharge. If you are interested, simply contact our support team.

Compatible vehicles

  • Audi TTS Coupé 8S (with particulate filter, from around 2018)
  • Audi TTS Coupé 8S (without particulate filter, up to around 2018)
  • Audi TTS Coupé FV (internal designation, the same as 8S)

Not suitable for: Audi TTS Roadster 8S (different body, with its own system in the shop), Audi TT RS 8S Coupé (five-cylinder engine and a completely different exhaust system), Audi TT 8S (base model, different engine). There are separate GRAIL systems for each of these models.

Scope of delivery

  • GRAIL valved exhaust system suitable for Audi TTS Coupé 8S / FV (in deiner gewählten Variante)
  • Two integrated valves in series
  • 4× round 100 mm exhaust tips in brushed stainless steel or black (as selected)
  • Mounting hardware
  • ECE type approval as documentation to keep in the car

Road-legality notes

No registration required thanks to ECE type approval - valid for all EU vehicles with standard type approval. On cars with a particulate filter, the factory filter stays integrated in the system and ensures full ECE compliance. For imported cars with a different operating permit, please check the registration requirements before ordering.

FAQ

Audi uses both names for the same TTS generation. "8S" is the official sales designation, "FV" an internal factory code. Both mean the same car - the GRAIL system fits either way.
Audi phased the particulate filter in from around 2018. Cars built before then have no filter; newer ones come with it from the factory. The exact status is on the invoice or in the registration document. If unsure, send us the VIN on WhatsApp and we will check for you.
The filter version delivers a full, rich 2.0 TFSI note - a little warmer in character because of the filter section, but definitely not a restrained system. Without the filter it is a class clearer and more forceful, because no extra filter structure breaks the sound waves. Both versions stay fully legal thanks to ECE type approval.
With two valves in sequence the difference between quiet and loud is far greater than on standard systems. Closed, the system stays comfortably within all noise limits - fully ECE compliant. Open, you get the full 2.0 TFSI sound, ample and uncompromising. A design feature that sets GRAIL apart from many competitors.
Through your TTS's factory Audi valve control. Both valves respond automatically to the drive modes - in Dynamic they open, in Comfort or Efficiency they stay closed. Operated as usual through your car's MMI.
If you have an HJS downpipe fitted - common with stage 2 or stage 3 tuning - choose the HJS version in the configurator. The GRAIL is then built with the matching interface. A standard TTS without a downpipe modification stays with "to standard".
No. The TTS Roadster has a different rear geometry because of the folding roof. The TT RS has a completely different engine (the 2.5 TFSI five-cylinder) with its own exhaust. There are separate GRAIL systems for both in the shop.
The lower back pressure and flow-optimised routing make a small power gain possible. The main effect, though, is on sound and response. If you want a measurable increase, combine the system with a software upgrade - the larger cross-sections make it ready for stage tuning.
