The Audi RS3 sedan (8Y) is the rarer and sportier of the two RS3 body styles – featuring the DAZA 2.5 TFSI 5-cylinder engine, 400 hp, and the typical transversely mounted 1-2-4-5-3 firing order that has made the RS3 family acoustically in a class of its own for years. What Audi mercilessly stifles with the OPF (Otto Particulate Filter) and factory-installed silencer, the GRAIL flap exhaust system completely unleashes: the 5-cylinder finally makes its presence felt, the bass returns, and the sound range is enormous.

Handmade in Germany from L304 stainless steel. With ECE type approval – therefore registration-free in all EU vehicles with standard approval. Ready to drive immediately after installation.

Two flaps in a row – the maximum sound delta

GRAIL uses a technical solution for the RS3 8Y sedan that hardly any other manufacturer on the market offers: Two flaps are installed one behind the other in a row.This offers a decisive advantage over standard systems with only one flap – the absolute maximum between quiet and loud.

• Flaps closed: Both flaps consistently block the exhaust flow – the system cleanly complies with all prescribed noise levels. You can drive through any 30 km/h zone, any town, any residential area without stress. Full ECE compliance.
• Flaps open: Both flaps release the full exhaust flow – uncompromisingly loud, a full 5-cylinder sound without any restraint. Exactly what Audi delivers to the DAZA from the factory.

The result: a significantly larger sound delta than with comparable systems with only one flap – more brutal in Sport mode, more subtle in Cruise mode.

Sedan vs. Sportback – why separate systems

The RS3 sedan has a uniquely designed rear end with a different diffuser and tie-down points than the Sportback. GRAIL therefore manufactures a custom-fit system for each body style. This particular system is designed exclusively for the sedan – Sportback owners will find the system specifically designed for that model as a separate product in our shop.

Flap control – via the Audi driving modes

Both flaps are controlled via the factory-installed Audi flap control system in your RS3 sedan. No remote control, no modification to the MMI, no additional module in the interior.

• In Dynamic or RS mode: Both flaps open – full GRAIL sound
• In Comfort or Efficiency mode: Both flaps closed – ECE-compliant and discreet

Configuration in the configurator

Before ordering, you choose:

• Model year: Pre-facelift or facelift
• Downpipe connection: On a standard or HJS downpipe
• Tailpipe variant: With funnel-shaped tailpipes (black) or without tailpipes

Tailpipe variants – important to know

GRAIL offers two exhaust pipe options for the RS3 sedan 8Y, which differ fundamentally:

Option 1: Funnel-shaped tailpipes in black (recommended)

The black funnel-shaped tailpipes are precisely integrated into the factory-installed rear aprons of the RS3 sedan. They ensure that the exhaust gases are safely and controllably expelled through the rear bumper – exactly as Audi intended with the OEM system. Visually discreetly integrated, technically a clean solution.

Option 2: Without tailpipes

With this option, the exhaust pipes end in front of the rear panels – the exhaust gases are not routed through the factory-installed tailpipe outlets. Important NOTE: This variant can cause exhaust fumes to accumulate under the vehicle. This can lead to damage to the rear bumper, paintwork, diffuser, or other components in the rear area.

Disclaimer: We strongly recommend the version with our funnel-shaped tailpipes to ensure controlled and safe exhaust gas discharge. Neither GRAIL nor FLOW DOWN® accepts liability for damage resulting from choosing the version without tailpipes. The buyer bears full responsibility.

Downpipe connection

• A series: Standard choice for RS3 sedan without downpipe modification. Direct connection to the factory downpipe.
• To HJS: For drivers with an installed HJS downpipe (typical for Stage 2 / Stage 3 setups). The GRAIL is manufactured with a compatible interface for HJS.

Material & workmanship

L304 stainless steel throughout, CNC-machined components. The silencers and both flaps were specially tuned to the DAZA 5-cylinder engine in the GRAIL sound lab – taking into account the characteristic firing order and the sound spectrum, which the sedan, with its closed trunk, projects differently than the Sportback. Flow-optimized pipe routing minimizes exhaust backpressure when the flaps are open. Both flaps are made of solid stainless steel, offering precise switching and long-lasting durability for everyday use.

Upon request, you can receive a Swiss suitability assessment for the GRAIL system for an additional fee. If interested, simply contact support.

Registration-free thanks to ECE type approval – applies to all EU vehicles with standard registration. For imported vehicles with a different operating permit, please check registration requirements before ordering. The ECE type approval certificate should be kept in the vehicle's glove compartment.
