The Golf 8 GTI has always been the acoustic underdog in VW's performance lineup. That changes with the GRAIL 3.5" flap exhaust system. The subtle four-cylinder sound from the factory transforms into a voluminous, powerful soundscape that finally does justice to the GTI's character. Backfires during load changes, subtle at cruising speed – the distinctive GRAIL delta between loud and quiet.

Handmade in Germany from L304 stainless steel. ECE type-approved and therefore registration-free in all EU vehicles. The 3.5-inch diameter is tailored to the 2.0 TSI engine of the GTI Performance and offers enough headroom for future software optimization or stage upgrades.

Flap control – via the driving modes of the Golf 8

Just like the Clubsport version, the GRAIL system features two integrated vacuum valves that are connected during installation. Control is then automatic via the driving modes of your Golf 8.

• Sport or Race mode: Flaps open fully – full GRAIL sound
• Comfort or Eco: flaps closed – discreet and ECE-compliant

No remote control, no additional control element in the interior – you drive your GTI as usual and simply control the system via the driving mode.

Selection in the configurator

Before ordering, you select the following factors:

• Model generation: Pre-facelift (until 07/2024) or facelift (from 07/2024)
• Downpipe connection: On a standard or HJS downpipe
• Tailpipe color: brushed stainless steel or black

Tailpipes – 115 mm left and right

The system comes with two large 115 mm tailpipes (left and right) – significantly more prominent than the OEM tailpipes and immediately recognizable as an aftermarket product.

• Brushed stainless steel: Classic-sporty, high-quality rear
• Black: More understated in appearance, ideal for the black package or dark rims.

Downpipe connection – stock or HJS

• A series: Standard choice for Golf 8 GTI without downpipe modification. The GRAIL system connects directly to the factory downpipe.
• To HJS: For drivers with an installed HJS downpipe (typical for Stage 2 / Stage 3). The GRAIL is manufactured with a compatible interface for HJS.

Materials & workmanship

Completely made of L304 stainless steel, CNC-machined components. The silencers are specially tuned in the GRAIL sound lab for the 2.0 TSI engine of the Golf 8 GTI Performance. Flow-optimized pipe routing minimizes exhaust backpressure, and the two vacuum-operated flaps made of solid stainless steel switch precisely. Handcrafted in Germany – you can see it, hear it, and feel it.

• 50% deposit upon order placement – we will then order the system from GRAIL
• As soon as the system arrives at our workshop, we will arrange an installation date with you.
• You only pay the remaining amount after the installation has been completed – not before.

Important: The deposit payment option applies exclusively to bookings including installation and is only available via prepayment/bank transfer. PayPal or other payment methods are not accepted for this service.

Swiss suitability assessment

Upon request, you can receive a Swiss suitability assessment for the GRAIL system for an additional fee. If interested, simply contact support.

• VW Golf 8 GTI Performance Facelift – ab 07/2024

Not suitable for: Golf 8 GTI Clubsport (different engine code, different system) and Golf 8 R (DNFG engine). Separate GRAIL systems are available for these models in our shop.

Information on admission

Registration-free thanks to ECE type approval – applies to all EU vehicles with standard registration. For imported vehicles with a different operating permit, please check registration requirements before ordering. The ECE type approval certificate should be kept in the glove compartment.
